Science is consistently striving to create better lives for everyone on Earth. Behind every breakthrough, there is much research and technological development involved. At the end of last year, Nature Genetics and Nature Medicine published a collection of 14 milestones in cancer filed in recent decades to showcase major advances in the understanding of cancer and the development of novel therapies that are improving patient survival.

Among these milestones, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) has been mentioned many times regarding its positive influence in cancer research. From entire genome sequencing to single-cell sequencing, NGS technology makes it possible to obtain comprehensive gene data in a short time. Then, comparative studies are conducted to discover the difference between healthy cells and tumor cells.
NGS's contribution is not limited to cancer research. The development of NGS has been accelerating the development and application of cancer and many other complex disease diagnoses at the genetic level, while also promoting the progress of personalized medicine.
